Abstract

KILLIAN GALVAN, Violeta A.; SELDES, Verónica  and  NIELSEN, Axel E.. Paleodietary inference in the archaeological site Los Amarilos (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy, Argentina). Relaciones [online]. 2016, vol.41, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 0325-2221.

This paper presents the results of stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes analysis (δ13Cco, δ15N and δ13Cap) of a sample of 20 adult human individuals from different sectors of the site Los Amarillos (Regional Development and Inca Period, Humahuaca, Jujuy, Argentina). the main goal was to determine the prevailing resources in diets, considering regional isotopic data for vegetable and animal resources. besides, the internal variability of the sample was evaluated, considering the spatial provenance of the individuals. our results indicate a balanced diet among meat resources, from heights below 3.900 m a.s.l., and vegetables under C4 photosynthetic pathway (maize and amaranth). the sample shows also little difference in dietary patterns, when the contextual information of the burials is taken into account.

Keywords : stable isotopes – agriculture – pastoralism – Zea mays – consumption.
