Abstract

INIESTA, M. Lourdes. LATE LANDSCAPE SETTING (FOURTEENTH – FIFFTEENTH CENTURIES) IN GUANDACOL VALLEY (FELIPE VARELA, WEST LA RIOJA PROVINCE). Relaciones [online]. 2016, vol.41, n.2, pp.1-10. ISSN 0325-2221.

In this paper, we propose to configure the landscape of the Late Period (ca. 1300-1440 a.D.) in the Guandacol Valley (department Felipe Varela, La Rioja) starting from the reconstruction of its spatial dimension, from a regional approach. For that purpose, we identify settlement patterns and the forms of occupation, the relationships between the locations and environments, and the linkages and interactions between sites. Methodologically, we perform an analysis of the distributions using the tools of the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Past software. We propose that, for the temporal context under study, the groups of this territory were distributed in a village way, around water sources and carob tree plantations, with socio-economic organization similar to that of the communities settled in the southern sector of the Argentinian Northwest.

Keywords : landscape - spatial dimension - Guandacol Valley - Late Period - Southern Northwest context.
