DARAN, Víctor et al. BARRIO RAMOS I. MORTUARY PRACTICESIN THE INITIAL INCA PERIOD OF THE USPALLATA VALLEY (MENDOZA, ARGENTINA). Relaciones [online]. 2018, vol.43, n.1, pp.1-11. ISSN 0325-2221.
We present an interdisciplinary research of the human remains and grave goods recovered from the Barrio Ramos I burial, localized in the Uspallata Valley (Mendoza, Argentina). We reassess the traditionalassignmentof the site to the late Agroalfarero'period. Basedon a bayesian analysis of the available radiocarbon dates for the site, and by integrating regional contexts with similar chronology, we suggest that Barrio Ramos I falls within the period of Inca domination. The analysis of lithic, ceramic, and bone artifacts recoveredfrom the burial support this inference. By means of isotopic and bioarchaeological studies of the remains, we offer valuable insights on the lifeway and geographic origin of some of the individuals found at the site.
