The paper analyzes the construction of otherness in Menem´s political discourse, integrating tools from discourse theory of Ernesto Laclau and Lacanian psychoanalysis. Incorporating more complex to specialized studies, it argues that Menem´s speech assumes a quadruple construction of otherness with two particular characteristics. First, although assumes a diffuse structuring, at times the otherness takes the form of specific political actors. Second, the President builds a wide interpellation, which constructs otherness based on an inclusive superego mandate. In this context, the excluded symptom assumes an extime form
