We analyze how the State's physical coercion assumes a political dimension through the first massive gendarmes' deployment in the Plan Operativo Cinturón Sur in Buenos Aires City. From an ethnographic perspective we describe and compare that political dimension in the ways the Gendarmerie and the Argentina Federal Police give security. First we show how the intervention of a military force over segregated populations can enables its consent from some political and social groups, and second we explain in what way do those operations triggered over some gendarmes the need for adaptation, challenging the conditions for obedience.
