Abstract Eliseo Verón dedicated half a century of his existence to the semiotic investigation of media, as teacher, investigator and consultant in communication, career where he produced an extensive work -books, articles, reports of investigation- in several languages. He carried out the creation of Centro Internacional de Semiótica y Comunicación (CISECO) in Brazil and undertook works on analysis of social discourse that culminated with his theory on the concept of open semiotics. His conceptual heritage is a legacy for the future generations of semiotics studies.
