Abstract

CASANOVA, Martín José et al. Advanced heart failure: dilated cardiomyopathy of uncertain etiology. Insuf. card. [online]. 2011, vol.6, n.4, pp.203-208. ISSN 1852-3862.

Determining the etiology of dilated cardiomyopathy is a key element in the management and prognosis of a patient with heart failure (HF). The same etiology may not only damage the myocardium, cardiac decompensation but trigger. In many patients can coexist pathologies that sometimes cannot distinguish between causation, concurrence or consequence of the likely triggers and the actual myocardial disease. In this case report, we present a dilated cardiomyopathy of unknown etiology in a context of a patient with advanced HF.

Keywords : Secondary dilated cardiomyopathy; Hyperthyroidism; Tachycardiomyopathy; Heart failure.
