BANEGA¹, Rodrigo. Revolutionizing the treatment of heart failure: Discovering CardioMEMST. Insuf. card. [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.3, pp.141-148. ISSN 1852-3862.
The CardioMEMST HF System monitors pulmonary artery (PA) pressure and heart rate wirelessly. The PA sensor is permanently implanted via a minimally invasive right heart catheterization procedure. After implant the PA pressure sensor at the distal pulmonary artery, the CardioMEMST HF System wirelessly transmits the hemodynamic data to a secure database. This data transmission could be realized at the hospital daily the patient from its home. The database is available for physicians to manage the HF. Automatic alerts are sent to the monitoring center whenever pressures or heart rate exceed prespecified limits. This management reduces hospitalizations and better life quality for the patient. Physicians use the CardioMEMS HF System to take time sensitive decisions immediately for patients with moderate to advanced HF. The CardioMEMST HF System revolutionizes management of the HF treatment. According to the CHAMPION trial, in 15 months the hospitalizations were reduced by 37% with 98.6% free of complications. Recent prospective studies find 53% reduction in mortality in patients with resynchronization therapy or implantable cardioverter defibrillator devices.
