PELAEZ, Enrique; MONTEVERDE, Malena  e  ACOSTA, Laura. Celebrating population aging in Argentina: Challenges for public policie. SaberEs [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.1, pp.01-28. ISSN 1852-4418.

The aging process is one of the main global demographic phenomena. The increase in the number of older people, as well as the prolongation of life cycle, pose new challenges for societies and important challenges in terms of public policies, especially in health services areas, social security and long-term care. These challenges have led to the discussion of international agreements among the countries of the region to which Argentina has adhered: the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development, originated in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); and the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older People (CIDPM). In this context, the present study analyzes the challenges facing Argentina in terms of health services, longterm care and social security access, given the particularities of aging process in this country. To celebrate the aging population in Argentina, it is necessary that this achievement of humanity is accompanied by a Healthy Aging in a broad sense (WHO, 2015). It is essential to begin to think and design the reforms in health systems, longterm care and social security systems, so linked to the welfare of this group of people.
