Abstract

One of the problems regarding the academic performance of students at the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Estadística, Universidad Nacional de Rosari(Argentina) o , is the delay in the expected time limits stipulated by the curricula for choosing the course of study, which is possible only after passing four subjects of an Introductory Cycle Common for thethree courses of study of this college. So as to study which family and personal factors affect this delay, the cohort of new students of 2008 is analyzed for a period of five years. Since the time until they meet this condition is measured annually and it assumes a few different values, the survival analysis could be accomplished by generalized lineal models using suitably restructured dataset. The application of this methodology was successful and the results show that the students which present more delay in accomplishing this goal are male students, those who attended public schools, those who do not work and those who did not begin their university studies immediately after finishing high school.
