Resumen

FERNANDEZ, Sandra. Territorio corporativo, fragmentación socioterritorial y respuestas locales en el Chile post-terremoto, Región del Biobío. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.41-62. ISSN 1852-4265.

This paper addresses the concept of corporate territory to examine the role of the forestry industry in Biobío Region, which has been dominated by this industry for forty years. Some theoretical elements help to identify spatial practices embodied in the development of strongly rooted territorial alliances. Such alliances were set in a deeply fragmented territory thanks to the intervention of private actors such as the large forestry company and state enterprise, subsidiary and clientelistic public policies. In a context of disintegration of the national social network, it is possible to recognize the permanent and increasingly articulated actions of actors at micro level. These actors reinforce and build up alliances on strong territorial basis. Faced with a socio-natural phenomenon like the disaster that took place on February 27, 2010, varied practices and arguments were developed due to the fundamental contradictions that neo-liberalism implemented in Chile. Reborn alliances underpin political projects that are more or less explicit. The local space is not only the scenario of collaborative actions, but also conflicts which shape post-development discourses in Chile.
