Abstract

MARCOS, Mariana; ANSALONI, María Florencia  and  MERA, Gabriela. La dimensión espacial de la marginación urbana: Una aplicación a la Región Metropolitana de Buenos Aires (2010). Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.2, pp.49-77. ISSN 1852-4265.

As part of the series of studies which have research on social inequalities -and their multiple configurations in metropolitan areas- this article intends to focus on a polysemic category that has been extensively debated in the academic field: the marginalization. Therefore, working from an integrative approach that articulates statistical and demographic analysis techniques and tools of socio-spatial analysis, this research aims to study the spatial dimension of marginalization in the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires in 2010. The research has a quantitative-descriptive methodological approach, based on secondary data sources -the last National Census of Population, Households and Housing, and the Vital Statistics- and proposes a battery of statistical indicators that account for the different dimensions that compose it. It could be seen that the urban marginalization in this region has a clear center-periphery pattern following the matrix of historical territorial differentiation, as well as some exceptions linked to access to urban services which exhibit a distinctive spatial behavior. New questions for future studies arise.

Keywords : Urban Marginalization; Social Inequalities; Territory; Buenos Aires Metropolitan Region.
