Abstract

QUIROGA, Diego R. A.; CORONATO, Andrea; ANGELES, Guillermo R.  and  DEL VALLE, Héctor F.. Zonificación de áreas susceptibles a procesos erosivos en laderas desencadenados por la ganadería extensiva, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.2, pp.75-94. ISSN 1852-4265.

The first zoning map of susceptibility to erosive processes according to slope exposure is presented considering values of slope, orientation and state of soil for a sector of the Fuegian steppe located in the north of the province of Tierra del Fuego. Two sites were identified for the observation of mass removal and deflation processes on slopes with different physical characteristics (slopes greater than 6.59 % and N-NE-slope orientation) whose reference values will be applied in the analysis on a regional level. In turn, a photogrammetric analysis of the observation sites was also carried out. Remote sensing techniques were applied using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The DEMar 45 m spatial resolution Digital Elevation Model was used to extract the main conditioning factors for the occurrence of slope movements. The identification and mapping of the erosion processes were obtained from a supervised classification (maximum likelihood algorithm) of 10 m spatial resolution SPOT-4 image (micro-scale observation). The inventory map combined with the digital topography map constitutes a baseline for the study area. This information, which was inexistent so far, may be used as a planning tool to implement mitigation strategies and reduce erosive processes.
