Abstract

ISLA, Federico et al. Las Sudestadas del sudeste y del sur en la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina y el aumento antropogénico previsto del nivel del mar. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.1, pp.13-15. ISSN 1852-4265.

The sea coast of the province of Buenos Aires is affected throughout the year by synoptic scale storms. Waves generated by extra-tropical storm reach the east and southeast coast from the southeast, i.e. from the South Atlantic. The southern coast, on the other hand, has a more restricted fetch, but at the same time, the tidal range increases towards Bahía Blanca embayment. In recent years, this southern coast has also been subject to recurrent and episodic swells caused by southerly winds. The objective of this work is to discriminate the effects and the spatial incidence of both types of storms. Having analysed records from wave statistics and tide registers, we were able to identify these impacts. These effects are causing significant accelerations in the rate of coastal erosion, which will increase given the expectations of anthropogenic sea-level rise expressed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
