This work aims to characterize and analyze the process of functionalization of the territory for tourist use in Traslasierra area (Córdoba, Argentina), from the beginnings of tourism practice (early 20th century) to the present day. This article addresses a periodization that contextualizes the occurrence of various socio-territorial phenomena linked to practice of tourism in the region, and puts them in dialogue with the general social dynamics in force at each historical moment, placing greater emphasis on the analysis of the recent context. The results show the general aspects of Traslasierra’s touristification process, largely in common with what has occurred at broader territorial scale, and also show its particularities, such as the importance of the current forms of tourism valorization of nature in the region. The methodology used articulated mixed stages of work, which involved the survey, systematization and analysis of secondary sources and the production of primary information, both in the field and in the office. It also integrated various techniques and procedures (qualitative, quantitative, cartographic) for the processing, analysis and systematization of the information.
