By studying the American tradition of the romance of La esposa infiel stands out the importance attributed in this romance to the struggle waged between man and woman concerning the deciphering and concealment of clues. Based on this layout, it is proposed that the nucleus of interest of the romance lies on the problematics of deceit in general and the necessity of disclosing it.
