The following article provides a brief discussion of some of the works dealing with the historical and literary writings of the Spanish Civil War in Spain and Germany, trying to formulate a number of questions that may facilitate a better understanding of recent developments in the European culture of memory. A central question that is to be discussed here is as follows: Why is the word 'myth' so often associated with the remembrance of the Spanish Civil War, without considering the specific political orientation of each text? To illuminate the ongoing debate with regard to this and other questions, several voices - both 'active' and 'silent' - of a (hi)story that has been told in many ways.
