Resumen

MORAN, María Alma. El mar como personaje en cuatro obras de Manuel Vicent. Olivar [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.12, pp.275-292. ISSN 1852-4478.

The next article tries to develop the hypothesis by which the sea is a character in four works of Manuel Vicent: Contra Paraíso, Tranvía a la Malvarrosa, Del Café Gijón a Ítaca y Son de Mar. Also it aims to analize the peculiar union between the author and the Mediterranean sea as a scenery that vertebrate the action, and consider the topic of the sea and its alterity as a primordial characteristic in the mentioned works. Therefore, it pretends to inquire about the consideration of the sea as a character, particularly as a metaphor of man, with reference to its constant physical and spiritual presence, its disposition of internal space (internal sea), its differents conections with the senses, and specially its existence in the work as another character that makes possible the creation of stories and narrations, and works as a company in the man´s ages: childhood, adolescence, adulthood.

Palabras clave : Manuel Vicent; Sea; Character; Metaphor; Narrative; Alteridad.
