Abstract

GIL AMATE, Virginia. ¿Confiar en los criollos?: Apreciaciones sobre la condición de los españoles americanos en el siglo XVIII. Olivar [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.14, pp.13-31. ISSN 1852-4478.

This work is a reflection on the suspicion that the native sector caused in high political office of the Hispanic monarchy, which emanates obviously selective policy and honours both in the field of administration and in the Church. The talent and moral quality of this segment of the population was more than in any other period in question throughout the eighteenth century. The work draws a panoramic sustained in eighteenthcentury works and documents which are made apologies and criticisms of the Spanish Americans. The assumption underpinning this research suggests that if the distrust of America's Hispanic population had not so deep draft, the policy of the Bourbons might have had other guidance, and therefore the historical memory of the natives, after Independence, could have been less negative about their past Colonial.

Keywords : Colonial literature; Eighteenth century; Hispanic America.
