Abstract

BAHIMA Y TOHA, Francisca. Jordi Arbonès en Argentina: Un traductor del inglés al catalán. Olivar [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.15, pp.175-192. ISSN 1852-4478.

Since his establishment in Argentina in 1956, Jordi Arbonès, born in Catalonia, started to translate works from English into Catalan. As he advanced in knowledge of both language and culture, he received requests from major publishers to publish works of universally recognized authors in Catalan, allowing their introduction in Catalonia, especially in the post-Franco period. Upon his death in 2001, he had translated about 150 books. With his legacy, in the Facultat de Traducció i d'Interpretació of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the professorship "Catedra Jordi Arbonès" was established.

Keywords : Jordi Arbonès; Translation; English; Catalan; Argentina.
