Abstract

GARCIA, Miguel A  and  SPADAFORA, Ana María. Mundos espejados en un relato: Fusión de creencias y des-estigmatización en la sociedad pilagá. Pap. trab. - Cent. Estud. Interdiscip. Etnolingüíst. Antropol. Sociocult. [online]. 2012, n.23, pp.27-40. ISSN 1852-4508.

The paper examines a series of events that took place in a Pilaga community in the province of Formosa, Argentina, and involved aggressions, psycho-physical illnesses, oneiric practices, oneiromantic deciphering, ecstatic experiences and therapeutic procedures. The central figure behind these events is a woman that healed after malady and concomitantly acquired a therapeutic ability considered to be extraordinary. The analysis of both these actions and the Pilaga discourses that interpret them sheds light on the ways shamanic and evangelic beliefs combine, the manner in which the occurrence of a disease is deeply related to communal conflicts, and the desires and identities developed by the Pilaga in their dialogical contact with the encircling society.

Keywords : Pilaga; Shamanism; Evangelism; Conflict; Identity.
