Abstract

CARBONELLI, Juan Pablo. Collecting views: contributions to the interpretation of the "ampajanguense industry" surface sites. Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2015, vol.8, n.1, pp.7-22. ISSN 1852-060X.

This paper analyzes the lithic technology of the quarry-workshop sites in Ampajango, Los Zazos and El Bordo, located at the south of the Calchaquí valleys, from collections of the Museum of Anthropology of Rosario and the Natural Science Museum of La Plata. Information on lithic production processes present on sites was obtained through the techno-morphological analysis of artifacts from varied typological findings. Recognizing the existence of biases in the composition of the sample, resulting from the historical context of their formation, the observed recurrence of bifacial artifacts and recycling processes, as well as changes in bifaces, are interpreted as denoting the existence of non-synchronous manufacturing and use activities. From these data the hypothesis made is that these surface sites might have been used as stone tool caches, that is, storage spaces of raw material within the mobility circuit of hunter-gatherer societies.
