Resumen

CANUQUEO, Lorena; KROPFF, Laura  y  PEREZ, Pilar. In the shadow of the state: Indian communalization in sites from the Rio Negro province pre Cordillera, Argentina. Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2015, vol.8, n.2, pp.159-170. ISSN 1852-060X.

In this article we intend to analyze a process of communalization located in the rural areas of the province of Río Negro. In August 2011 the Mapuche community Newen Ñuke Mapu came formally into existence. Since then on it became one more of the "new" indigenous communities in contrast to those acknowledge as "traditional". Our argument is that there is no such novelty but there is an underlying long term process of communalization that has been in constant dispute with state policies. In this sense, we describe it as a grouping that has developed at the shadow of the state. We begin by laying out the historical process of incorporation of the Mapuche people to the national state in order to situate this particular case. Then, we discuss the process of communalization on three historical scenarios anchored in three different types of crises.
