Abstract

BAEZA, Carlos; SCHRADER, Otto  and  ESCOBAR, Inelia. Karyotype of Rhodophiala aff. advena from the VIII Region of Chile. Kurtziana [online]. 2006, vol.32, n.1-2, pp.45-51. ISSN 1852-5962.

Double fluorescence in situ hybridization was used to examine the karyotype of two populations of Rhodophiala aff. advena (Ker-Gawl.) Traub from Chile, VIII Region, including the location of 5S and 18S/25S rDNA gene sequences with DAPI. The species is 2n = 2x = 18. There are no significant differences between the chromosomal asymmetric index (AsI %) and intrachromosomal index (A1) among populations. The chromosome set contains 2 pairs of metacentric chromosomes, 3 pairs of submetacentric chromosomes and 4 pairs of subtelocentric chromosomes in both populations. Signal of 5S and 18S/25S rDNA were seen in 3 of the 9 chomosomes pairs. Chromosome 2 and 4 showed a signal of 5S rDNA in the terminal part of the long arm, whereas the chromosome 7 showed a 18S/25S rDNA signal in the subterminal portion of the long arm, corresponding to the nucleolar organizer region (NOR). The results are discussed with others previous in the genus.
