Abstract

SALAS, N  and  MARTINO, A. L.. Patrones de configuraciones meióticas en poblaciones de Odontophrynus cordobae y O. americanus (Anura: Cycloramphidae), en el área central de Argentina. BAG, J. basic appl. genet. [online]. 2008, vol.19, n.2, pp.27-32. ISSN 1852-6233.

In this work, we have observed and evaluated the intra- and inter-specific variations of the meiotic configurations of the Odontophrynus americanus and O.cordobae spermatocytes. The chromosomal preparations were obtained from standard techniques and they were taken from a sample of 30 O. americanus males of five populations from the province of Córdoba, three from San Luis and nine O. cordobae males of four populations from the province of Córdoba. The populations of O. cordobae show a regular meiotic behavior and they form 11 II, while the populations of O. americanus form an important diversity of multivalent configurations. The most representative configuration was 6 IV, 10 II with a 34.78 % of frequency. The high diversity of meiotic figures is mainly seen in the populations of diploid and tetraploid Odontophrynus which are in syntopy, while the populations which are away among themselves are very low in diversity. It is important to take into account the observation of the meiotic chromosomes when analyzing the polyploid populations which are distributed near to their diploid populations.
