MASUELLI, Ricardo W y MARFIL, Carlos F. Variabilidad epigenética en plantas y evolución. BAG, J. basic appl. genet. [online]. 2011, vol.22, n.1. ISSN 1852-6233.
Interspecific hybridization is an important mechanism in angiosperm evolution. Hibridization induces a shock in the genome resulting in genetics and epigenetic changes. Epigenetic changes generate new allelic variants called epialleles with morphological, physiological and ecological consequences, relevant for the plant evolution. Epialleles constitute a new source of variation potentially reversible that produces fexible genotypes with adaptation to changing environmental conditions. The aim of this review is to summarize the known epigenetic mechanisms in plants and analyze the possible connections with interspecific hybridization and plant evolution.
