Resumen

SANTOS WEIS, Andrea Simone. Descriptive study of adolescence in São Borja: an analysis focusing on social skills. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.1, pp.291-318. ISSN 1852-7310.

Social skills are important for Psychology as well as for people in general and, therefore, when reporting on adolescence the concern arises to verify the social skills of youngsters, as were verified those of the youngsters of the city of São Borja, Brazil, in this case. The importance of this subject for this community is the possibility to identify resources or deficits of these social skills in the community. Individuals with deficits can present greater psychological problems, aas well as social and academic ones, than individuals with resources, who attain an assertive complex stance which guarantees a balance in their lives. The general aim of this scientific study is to describe the social skills of adolescents in three different schools (state public school, country public school and private school). The sample of this study is composed for each school, by 171 male and female junior students in high school, of ages ranging from 13 to 17. Two instruments were used for the data collection: the first is an instrument of narrative of personal experiences called Inventory of Social Skills for Adolescents developed by Del Prette (IHSA- Del-Prette 2009a) and the second, also of narrative of personal experiences (Criterion Brazil, version 2008) relates the social skills of the youngsters to their socio-economic class. The results will show if there is or not correlation between social skills, type of school and the social class in which the adolescent is inserted.
