Abstract

WOIZINSKI, Adela. A New Approach to Persuasion, from a Psychoanalytic Perspective. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.2, pp.174-188. ISSN 1852-7310.

This article presents a contribution to the study of persuasion, including it in the area of intersubjective bonds. Both concepts are part of a doctoral thesis on manipulation through discourse. The sample used for this investigation is a literary play, Richard III by W. Shakespeare. The main character is well known for his expertise in the art of persuasion. This investigation includes two stages: the first one that centers the studies on the process that takes place at the moment of persuasion; and a second stage, centered on what is suitable, in each particular case, to convince or persuade the interlocutor. The text here analyzed is constituted by selected fragments to which the David Liberman Algorithm (DLA) was applied. It is a method on discourse analysis, based on the Freudian theory of drives and defenses. The scene, considered memorable, provided excellent conditions to investigate a new approach to the interpretation of persuasion from a psychoanalytic perspective as well as an opportunity for a more sophisticated research on the subject of intersubjective bonds.

Keywords : Discourse analysis; Persuasion; Strategies; Intersubjectivity.
