Abstract

STEIN-SPARVIERI, Elena. Speech act analysis of investigative journalism articles: With a David Liberman algorithm (ADL) speech act classification tool. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.2, pp.198-218. ISSN 1852-7310.

This article presents a classification tool for the speech act analysis of investigative journalism articles, developed jointly with David Maldavsky. Its conception arose from the need to analyze wishes and defenses manifested in the speech acts of articles structured in the formal, informative style of journalism in general and of investigative journalism in particular. The article begins by describing investigative journalism characteristics, continues with the explanation of the speech act classification tool and concludes by showing a speech act analysis of two investigative journalism articles, centered on the same incident, one of them published by a newspaper supportive of the government policy, the other one published by a newspaper opposed to the government policy.

Keywords : Wishes; Defenses; Discourse; DLA; Investigative journalism; Denunciation; Scandal.
