The study area is located in San Juan province, at 32º00´-32º10´S and -68º45'- 69º00´W, and 850-2500 m asl. Plant communities were studied using the Braun- Blanquet method, through 75 floristic releves. Communities of: Larrea cuneifolia, Larrea divaricata, Baccharis salicifolia and Hyalis argentea were determined, as well as Mimulus glabratus and Eleocharis albibracteata in streamflows, Chuquiraga erinacea, Adesmia retrofracta and Stipa cordobensis on Tertiary soils, the saxicolous community on rocky outcrops, and grasslands of Stipa ichu and Stipa tenuissima.
