AIASSA, Delia  e  GORLA, Nora. Karyotypes of Liolaemus quilmes and Liolaemus wiegmannii and its comparison with other taxa of the boulengeri group. Multequina [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.2, pp.43-52. ISSN 1852-7329.

The chromosomes of Liolaemus quilmes (2n= 32), not previously shown, and the karyotype of L. wiegmannii (2n= 32), which differs from other references, are reported. Two specimens from each species were studied. Metaphases from bone marrow and intestinal epithelial were obtained. Both lizards show the same chromosomal morphology, which consists of six pairs of metacentric (M) and submetacentric (SM) macrochromosomes, microchromosome number (#) 7 with acrocentric-telocentric morphology (A-T) and microchromosomes #8 and 9 with M-SM morphology, the rest of microchromosomes are punctiforms. L. quilmes microchromosomes # 7, 8 and 9 are 21% bigger than L. wiegmanni ones. In the present cytogenetic development of the genera this is the only difference of the karyotype between both species. The other species of the boulengeri group with cytogenetic studies reported have 2n= 28, 32, 34 and 36. Only L. riojanus shows 2n= 32 like L. quilmes and L. wiegmannii but with morphologic and chromosome length differences in the first three pairs of microchromosomes # 7, 8 y 9. It is recognize the importance of these pairs in the inter-specific differences among the group.
