Diet is a complex phenomenon and its study requires diverse approaches that contribute to describe and understand it. In order to know the preparations consumed by adults in Rosario city and to assess the differences according to sex, age group and season, a cross sectional study was carried out. The preparations consumed at lunch and dinner time by 1200 adults from 18 to 69 years old, and collected by a 24-hour dietary recall, were analysed and categorized. The results show that preferences change according to sex. Men consume more meals based on beef, organ meats and starchy vegetables. Also choices change according to age and season. The older you get, the smaller the presence of cereals, pulses and starchy vegetables is, and more intake of salads, while the youngest people prefer less elaborate preparations. During hot seasons salads and sandwiches are more consumed. Foods are structured and organized in preparations, which change according to the sociodemographic characteristics studied and the season of the year; know them is the first step to improve the nutrition of the population.
