Resumen

PATINO, Juan Martín et al. Proximal humeral fractures: comparative results with fixed-angle and polyaxial locking plates. Rev. Asoc. Argent. Ortop. Traumatol. [online]. 2010, vol.75, n.1, pp.06-12. ISSN 1852-7434.

Background: There is still no agreement in the international literature about implant selection. The purpose of this study is to asses these two fixation types' functional results. Methods: 29 patients, at 6 month follow-up, were retrospectively evaluated with the Constant Score, divided in two groups. Group A (Fixed Angle Locking Plates, 17 patients) and Group B (Polyaxial Locking Plates, 12 patients). The Neer Classification was used for the preoperative evaluation. A deltopectoral approach was performed in all patients. Results: 16 Fractures in Group A healed, 1 had to undergo revision surgery due to non- union. The Constant Score was 77.37 points. In Group B all fractures healed, but 1 patient suffered aseptic necrosis of the humeral head, and another varus displacement. The Constant Score for this group was 75 points. Conclusions: There was no difference in the clinical outcome between both fixation groups. In all patients, the Constant score major improvement was due to the ROM. The results of this study are similar to others in the literature about locking plates.
