LOPEZ MILLAN, Lucas et al. Treatment, complications and survivalOf chondrosarcoma of humerus proximal. Rev. Asoc. Argent. Ortop. Traumatol. [online]. 2011, vol.76, n.4, pp.303-308. ISSN 1852-7434.

Background: The Chondrosarcoma of humerus is the second tumor bone in frecuency, less frequent than the of femur and pelvis reason why there is little bibliography of the results obtained in the treatment of this tumor. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 28 patients with diagnosis de chondrosarcoma de proximal humerus treated between 1988 and 2010. The followed mean was 6 years ( range 6 - 200 months). The age mean was of 48 years (range 17 - 75 years), including 10 of masculine sex and 18 of the feminine. In this series, 13 were histologic grade I chondrosarcoma, 11 grade II, 2 grade III and 2 dedifferentiated Two patients were disarticulated and in 26 patients the limb was conserved. In 5 cases were treaty with resection intralesional (curettage + allograft) and in the 21 rest resection of the tumor with reconstruction (10 allografts composite prosthesis, 5 allografts osteoarticular, 4 allografts intercalary and 2 endoprosthesis. Results: There were 2 local recidive and two patients died by their disease ( 2 chondrosarcomas dedifferentiated). There were no complications in the group treated intralesional, and were 8 in the treated extralesional. The conservation the limb was 100% in chondrosarcoma grade I, II and 50% in grade III. The survival was 100% at the 5 years in the tumor de low grade and 50%in grade high. The survival was 100%at the 5 years in the tumor de low grade and 50% in grade high. Conclusions: In this series a high rate of conservation of limb was obtained in the treatment of chondrosarcoma of proximal humerus without affecting the rate of survival of the patients.
