Abstract

NIEMBRO, Andrés; DONDO, Mariana  and  CIVITARESI, H. Martín. The territorial manifestation of socioeconomic inequalities in Argentina: from diagnosis to public policies. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.1, pp.79-123. ISSN 1852-8562.

In this paper we analyze the socioeconomic gaps as well as the tasks and resources distribution among Argentinian provinces from the year 2000 onwards. We have found increasing gaps in most socioeconomic dimensions, insufficient provincial tax capacities and a distribution of national funds that have intensified preexisting regional asymmetries. To achieve a redistributive intervention among Argentinian provinces requires increasing subnational resources, compensating different tax capacities, thinking coherent policies, progressively allocating national funds, promoting virtuous circles of development and building local capacities and employment opportunities.

Keywords : Regional inequalities; Public finances; Nation-provinces-municipalities relations; Argentina.
