Abstract

BIOCCA, Mercedes. Beyond the letters of blood and fire: Trajectories of dispossession in Chaco, Argentina. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.2, pp.61-90. ISSN 1852-8562.

In the last decades, the Argentine agricultural sector has undergone deep changes. Numerous studies have pointed out the relationship between these changes and the accumulation by dispossession, considered the prevailing form of capital accumulation. Within this approach, the role of subalterns groups has been circumscribed to the resistance. This work, in contrast, seeks to analyze those situations in which new rural dynamics have not generated resistance. I will argue that to understand why there is or there is not resistance, it is necessary to complement this macro approach with studies focusing on the local rationalities.

Keywords : Accumulation by dispossession; Local rationalities; Indigenous peoples; Soya; Chaco.
