Abstract

GONZALEZ CUETO, Danny. Writing in the Caribbean: Notes of the "Writing in Barranquilla" by Ramón Illán Bacca. Cuad. CILHA [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.1, pp.40-48. ISSN 1852-9615.

In this article, the writer highlights the reception that the book "Writing in Barranquilla" has gotten in the circles of writers, literary specialists and journalists. The diverse critics on the text that sums up the literary milieu of the city and the Colombian Caribbean over the last half a century sparked questions on topics such as: ¿What´s the issue: the history of Barranquilla or the anecdotic record of its writers?, ¿Was the cultural life of Barranquilla just a mere part of its bohemian elite or that of its intelligentsia? All of these topics come to life when Ramón Illán Bacca exposes three generations of the city's intellectuals, spinning under the chat rhythmically punctuated by the armchair and the coffee's  sweet aroma drank at sunset in the literary gatherings that still make a presence in the contemporary Caribbean life.

Keywords : Caribbean; Literary critic; Cultural life; Literary gatherings.
