Abstract

DI GERONIMO, Miriam. Intimacy, Desire, and Eroticism in House of Geishas by Ana Maria Shua. Cuad. CILHA [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.2, pp.21-29. ISSN 1852-9615.

Out of the three parts composing the book, it will be analyzed only the first part that gives the book its title. This work tries to test the essential features of short short stories as literary genre which Ana Maria Shua uses strengthly as an outstanding writer. Fractality in particular will be studied as determining characteristic that causes a peculiar effect on reader. So, piece by piece and by appealing to imagination, reader can shape a complete world almost like the one of the novel. The secret lies on the disclosure of the universal features of a common area: the house, the desires, and the fantasies of men and women through the ages.

Keywords : Short stories; Eroticism; Fractality; Shua.
