Resumen
AHUALLI, Jorge. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging: general concepts. Rev. argent. radiol. [online]. 2010, vol.74, n.3, pp.226-236. ISSN 1852-9992.
Diffusion-weighted imaging has been accepted as a powerful imaging technique. It gives insight into the movement of water molecules in tissue and enables qualitative and quantitative assessment of tissue diffusivity (apparent diffusion coefficient). To fully understand how diffusion MR imaging works, it is helpful to be familiar with the physical principles of water diffusion and the conceptual basis of imaging technique. Knowledge of the technique-specific requirements with regard to hardware and acquisition time, as well as the advantages, limitations, and potential interpretation pitfalls of this novel technique, is especially useful.
