Abstract

CEJAS, Claudia  and  ACUNA, Cecilia. Gadolinium and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Rev. argent. radiol. [online]. 2012, vol.76, n.2, pp.145-149. ISSN 1852-9992.

Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), initially called nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy, is strongly linked to the intravenous injection of gadolinium-based contrast agents in patients with renal insufficiency. In this short review, we analyze the pathophysiology and clinical signs and symptoms, the medical responsibility of the radiologist in prevention through the implementation of the existing regulations and, finally, some concepts on the treatment of patients with chronic renal insufficiency who must receive a gadolinium injection.
