Resumen

MARRERO, Adriana. Hermione en Hogwarts o sobre el éxito escolar de las niñas. Mora (B. Aires) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.1, pp.29-42. ISSN 1853-001X.

Sociological Theory of Education has generally emphasized the reproductive character of educative system. That is, in spite of an universal and egalitarian cover, student's luck inside educative institutions is anticipated by social origins. As a result, social inequalities are legitimized. This critical analysis originally thought for social classes differences, has frequently been applied and used in gender relations sphere. Without denying women's "handicaps" in educative institutions, surprisingly, experience seem to indicate that educative mechanisms that reproduce social classes inequalities seem to work out in a different way when processing gender differences. Apparently, it seems urgent and relevant to question this kind of applications. Consequently, this article has a double target: i) on one hand, show which are the obstacles that women must face during their educative circuit; ii) on the other hand, an more important, give account of some of the factors that allow us to understand how women successfully those difficulties. In order to illustrate some of the phenomena that affect in different way women and men, Harry Potter´s story written by J. K. Rowling is used.

Palabras clave : Education; Gender; Inequality.
