Historically, the maternity has been a vehicle to specify efficiently the sexual division of the work. In spite of the fact that the events have shown that the woman does not belong naturally to that task and that many women discuss at present that destiny, it continues being a resource utilized recurrently to locate the woman in a space restricted and controlled. This is our anxiety and objective of exploration in this work. The present article tries to know how the maternity acts on diverse factors related to the autonomy of the heterosexual and homosexual women. For it we explore the subjectivity and the experiences of the hetero and homosexuals young women of the middle class of Buenos Aires city. Our results show the behavior of two imperative acting on the women interviewed: on the heterosexual, the imperative one to be mothers and to be able to cover many demands. For the homosexuals, the imperative one to be mothers by being women and to suppress the maternity by being lesbians.
