Abstract
DEPETRIS CHAUVIN, Irene. Sobre la destrucción: Materialidad y afecto en dos itinerarios por una geografía sísmica. Mora (B. Aires) [online]. 2016, vol.22, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1853-001X.
Considering recent contributions from the field of affective geographies as well as studies on the connecctions between memory and materiality, this article analyses two Chilean documentaries: Tres semanas después (2010), by José Luis Torres Leiva, and Tierra en movimiento (2014), by Tiziana Panizza. These two itineraries through a seismic geography offer ways of understanding the disaster and coping with the loss through a "work of mourning" that insists on both the material and the spectral qualities of space. José Luis Torres Leiva’s emphasis on the debris of collapesed buildings and on the performances of destruction of landscape and Tiziana Panizza’s attention to the poetic of textures in the every day life of a "seismic human community", reveal the ways in which films mobilize images that "move us" as well as they convey the potential of aesthetic practices to articulate new forms of "being together" in the aftermath of a loss.
