From photographic productions of Argentinian Gabriela Liffschitz and of English Jo Spence about their own experiences transit of breast cancer, we analyze the issues and discuss what can be conceived as divergent figurations from the laying of bodies mastectomized. In particular, we analyze the counterpoints inaugurated by both authors about how to be seen, a politics of the gaze that produce us, subjective us. Mastectomy, as a transformative medical technology bodies, challenges the limits of the human in terms of normality/social acceptance allowing warn the political character that cross these on. The article emphasizes the relationship between art and medicine as quintessential devices to promote certain visualities and desirable corporalities. Simultaneously, it analyzes tensions from which these works are positioned, in divergent way and the narratives of the disease. While Spence’s work can be interpreted from figurations of the monstrous, Liffschitz’s challenge questions and in that movement, it makes visible the discussion around certain modalities of expression.
