Abstract

MEDINA, Walter; VEJSBJERG, Laila  and  ACENOLAZA, Guillermo. Marco legal de la geoconservación: Presencia de la geología en las leyes de áreas protegidas de la República Argentina. Rev. Mus. Argent. Cienc. Nat. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.1, pp.53-64. ISSN 1853-0400.

This article is dedicated to the analysis of the legal framework for conservation of the geological heritage in natural protected areas of the Argentine Republic. The main objective is to uncover, in many cases, the absence of geology in national and provincial laws, on the understanding that its presence is necessary to legislate and implement policies of geoconservation of sites of geological interest. There are analyzed each of the laws, and verified that the term geology or related words were considered at the time of there elaboration, with the purpose of preserving the geological and geomorphological structures of regional or national importance. To achieve a better understanding, there are examined the experiences in protected areas laws in three pioneer European countries in geoconservation (Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom). The article is a contribution to the geoconservation study and the improvement of knowledge of political and legal actions concerning conservation of a country geological heritage.

Keywords : Protected Areas; National Parks; Laws; Geology; Geoconservation.
