Abstract

In Santiago de Cuba province, particularly in the municipality of Santiago de Cuba, mountain areas are susceptible to the occurrence of the hazards and risks associated with landslides, this is due to geological engineer existing conditions (the relief, geology and tectonics, geotechnical conditions) and the presence of shooting factors in the territory (intense rainfall, seismicity, erosion processes and human action). Therefore the municipality of Santiago de Cuba is considered, one of the areas with greatest potential for expression of landslide phenomena in Cuba. This paper is intended to introduce a new methodology for regional modeling of landslides in Santiago de Cuba, based on levels of importance of the variables that influence the manifestation of the phenomenon, and its mathematical formulation is proposed for its determination with the use of Geographic Information System (GIS).
