Resumen

ZILIO, Leandro; MORITA, María M.  y  BILMES, Gabriel M.. About the provenance and elaboration of cooper artifacts found in a burial of hunter-gatherer on the northern coast of Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. Zaranda ideas [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.2, pp.9-22. ISSN 1853-1296.

The study of four metal artifacts found in a burial of hunter-gatherers on the northern coast of Santa Cruz is presented. The elemental composition of the objects was characterized from a novel spectroscopic technique called LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy). The results showed that the artifacts are of high purity copper. An experimental procedure was developed to reproduce the possible stages and operations applied in the elaboration of the artifacts. It is concluded that the artifacts and their manufacturing technique could be of local origin. In addition, it is proposed that these objects would be linked to rituals of death of young individuals.

Palabras clave : Copper artifacts; Hunter-gatherers; LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy); Northern coast of Santa Cruz; Patagonia.
