Resumen

LLAMOSAS, Esteban F. Vos das los imperios, vos los quitas: el Deán Funes y su oración fúnebre a Carlos III (1789). Rev. hist. derecho [online]. 2010, n.39. ISSN 1853-1784.

The Dean Funes, commissioned by the intendant governor Sobremonte, pronounced in Córdoba the funeral oration for the death of Carlos III. Despite its laudatory character towards the king and the monarchy, after the Revolution of 1810 one of its passages was proclaimed as the first sign of political change, and therefore, its author emerged as "oracle" of the new order. How could this happen? The article reconstructs the traditions of interpretation of the Funeral Oration, to then make a complete reading of it, in order to clarify the juridical and political ideas of its author. For this purpose it is appealed to the bibliography that has treated the ideology of Funes´s speech, the contractarian allusions are contextualized within the general tone of the prayer, and are compared with Funes views on the matter, expressed before and after the Revolution, in his correspondence, Study Plan for the University and autobiographies.

Palabras clave : Dean Funes; Funeral Oration to Carlos III; Social contract; Bourbon reformism.
