The purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of institutionalization of legal justice in the area of Buenos Aires, specifically campaign south of the Rio Salado, in the context of state-building that took place during the second half of the nineteenth century. The text describes the procedural steps as well as perceived changes over the previous period and implementing regulations. In the trials analyzed is possible to perceive the continuity of colonial criminal law and the incorporation of new provisions that culminating with the passage and enactment of the Penal code drafted by carlos Tejedor. This did not involve the immediate abandonment of ancient laws, as the Séptima Partida, however resulted in a conflict between such regulations coexistence.
