Resumen

GRECO DE ALVAREZ, Andrea. Jury trial. Post-independence journalistic discussion. Rev. hist. derecho [online]. 2019, n.57, pp.29-70. ISSN 1853-1784.

The debate about the introduction of jury trials was intense in the early years of the post-independence period. We asked ourselves: What were the arguments for and against jury trials? And why, despite the interest that existed for this institution, however, did it not come together? The hypothesis at work is that the cultural foundations of our legal system were opposed to those of the culture in which jury trials arose. This would be the main reason why, despite the propaganda carried out by the system's promoters, it failed to be put into practice.

It is in the journalistic sources where an important array of arguments can be found. The corpus is made up of national and foreign newspapers (published between 1810 and 1832), as well as legal works from the period referenced by journalists.

Palabras clave : Journalism; Jury; Legal System; Judicial Administration.
